For most of The Great War HMS
Temeraire was part of the
4th Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet, and saw action at Jutland. At the Battle of Jutland,
Temeraire fired 54 12 ins shells and received no damage. In the North Sea on 18
March 1915, she unsuccessfully attempted to ram U-29 which had just attacked HMS
Neptune. [1]
In October 1918, she joined the Eastern Mediterranean Squadron; returned to England
in 1919 and was converted to a cadets seagoing training ship. Seen as obsolete by
the Admiralty, was decommissioned and sold for scrap in 1921.
