The Cumberland Centre

Redevelopment 2009 - 2011

The Cumberland Centre is to be totally redeveloped in order to provide a whole-health and well-being centre for the community. The services and facilities offered will be extensive, beyond that of a typical medical centre. If you want to see the exciting plans and designs they're available from the Plymouth City web site. Please Note: the centre, at Damerel Close, off Madden Road near Plymouth Albion Rugby Club, will remain in use during the redevelopment. Funding of £2.8 million was provided to the project from Devonport's New Deals for Communities programme. The work is due to start before the end of 2009 and completion is likely to be January 2011. There are some road shows available during September - why not pop along and check it out - this will be a great facility for Devonport so worth your while keeping abreast of progress. There might be a few more road shows next year.

Facilities and Services will Include:

  • Healthy Eating Cafe

    As well as healthy menu options the plans are to add outside seating for customers

  • Spiritual Quiet Area

    This will be a restful space, with a garden area, for those requiring peace and seclusion

  • Minor Injury Unit and X-Ray

    The current Minor Injury Unit is to be improved and reorganised. The unit is a walk-in centre and currently opens from 8.30am to 9pm every day of the year, reducing the requirement to travel to Derriford. The unit is able to treat a variety of problems including broken bones, minor head injuries and infected wounds. To phone the unit before attending call 0845 155 8003

  • Mental Health Support Services

    This will be the new home of the South West Mental Health team. Patients may be seen either at their own homes or at the Centres outpatient department.

  • Specialist Treatment Area

    Chemotherapy facilities will be availabe for cancer sufferers and people affected by cancer.

  • Healthy Promotion Area

    A positive health support facility will be available to the community, including for example, healthy heart, smoking advice, diet and weight guides, etc.

  • Outpatient Department

    Five additional consulting rooms for out-patient appointments, allowing far more patients than previous to be be seen. There will also be an ultra-sound room plus dedicated rooms for Family Planning, Speech therapy, Diabetes, and more.

  • GP Services

  • Physiotherapy Department

  • Staff Accommodation

  • Learning Disability Service

  • Improved Waiting Areas and Reception
