RiO - at Devonport Town Hall
(latterly, the Guildhall)
Upgrade to the Town Hall
The Real Ideas Organisation (RiO) are upgrading and refurbishing the Town Hall in
Ker Street with a £1 million grant from The Big Lottery's Community Asset Fund,
and 448,400 from Devonport’s New Deal for Community funds.
The work is already underway and when completed RiO will open the Town Hall as a
facility centre; their overall aim being to create and provide programmes and services
that that help young people realise their potential - for example. start-up support
for young businesspeople.
Exciting Facilities
It’s an exciting project where hot-desking of office space will take place by RiO’s
creative associate companies, to include CoastNet, Attik Dance and Chew TV. There
will be a large hall hireable for music and theatre production, conferences or community
events, plus a café and restaurant area for indoor and outdoor dining.
Thriving social hub and Cultural Quarter
It is intended that the Town Hall will become a recognised social enterprise centre
and a thriving cultural quarter for Devonport. RiO intend it to become a key hub
for business, media, education, social, cultural and community activities. Most
importantly, the entire project will ensure the Town Hall is removed from the ‘Buildings
at Risk’ register.
To Open early 2010
By Spring 2010 the work will be complete and the brand-new Town Hall will be opened.
The architects for the refurbishment are GHK, project managers are The Gates Partnership
and the builders are Devon Contractors.
